About GHEI

Global Heart Equity Institute (GHEI) is a global, independent institute focused on reducing inequities in cardiovascular health. GHEI works at the intersection of cardiology, digital health, and public health, with a special emphasis on low-resource settings where access to early detection and prevention remains limited.

Mission

To improve global cardiovascular health equity through accessible mobile technology, rigorous scientific research, and community-centered education.

Vision

A world where every person—regardless of geography, income, or literacy—has equitable access to early detection, prevention, and high-quality information about heart health.

Why GHEI was founded

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, but access to early detection and preventive care is extremely uneven. Many communities lack even basic screening tools, and emerging digital health innovations often reach only the most connected and resourced populations.

GHEI was founded to ensure that advances in cardiovascular screening, mobile technology, and AI modeling do not widen disparities—but instead are used to close them.

How GHEI works

  • Designing and evaluating mobile PPG and AI-based cardiovascular screening tools.
  • Building collaborations with clinicians and researchers in low-resource settings.
  • Developing accessible educational materials for patients and communities.
  • Sharing data, methods, and findings publicly whenever feasible.
